We just purchased a new house and it has a new water softener in it. I had heard once that when you have a water softener, you don’t have to use as much laundry detergent as is recommended in the washing machine . Has anyone else ever heard this or do you do this?

Hard water does require more detergent. Just check the washer in the rinse cycle-if it is still loaded with suds-cut back.

That is what i was told when i purchased my softener too and i don’t use as much as i did when i did not have one.

Just follow the instructions on the detergent package.
